Universal Music Latino secured an unprecedented back-to-back Best New Artist victory at last week’s Latin Grammy Awards. With 2024 winner Ela Taubert following 2023 champ Joaquina, UML is strengthening its reputation as the genre leader in artist development.
House López has been a perennial star maker in the Latin market over the last decade, from launching reggaeton in the global streaming market with “Despacito” to developing international headliners like J Balvin, KAROL G, Sebastián Yatra, Feid and Morat.
Grammy-winning producer Julio Reyes and his Arthouse/Abbey Road Academy—which has a strategic alliance with UML—has been injecting the label with young, highly-skilled creators like Taubert and Joaquina.
“To witness the growth of these new female artists, to experience how they've worked on their artistic development, being exceptional students, and to see that the music they share is recognized by the Latin Recording Academy brings great fulfillment to our teams at Universal Music and Arthouse,” said Chairman/CEO of Universal Music Latin America & Iberian Peninsula Jesús López.
Along with the BNA win for Taubert, UML also scored major genre trophies in Best Pop Vocal Album (Luis Fonsi’s El Viaje), Best Alternative Music Album (Mon Laferte’s Autopoiética), Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album (Alejandro Fernandez’s Te Llevo en la Sangre) and Best Banda Album (Chiquis’ Diamantes).
