WHAT IT IS: Mura Masa was already one of the biggest up-and-coming dance artists on SoundCloud when Polydor signed him, with over 10m plays and 100k followers. BBC Radio 1 was supportive early on with plays from Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Huw Stephens, among many others. Present single “Love$ick” f/A$AP Rocky has had Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss Fresh and Capital Xtra support. The track looks to be his highest-charting single to date and is already Top 40 on iTunes with several weeks to go until impact. Mura Masa has sold out all three of his U.K. tours to date, the most recent being the 3k-capacity Shepherd’s Bush Empire. He won over fans in droves at festivals last summer including Coachella and Glastonbury, and next year looks set to be even bigger and better. The finishing touches are currently being put on his debut album, which is due out in the first half of 2017.
