TRUMP ASKS SCOTUS TO PAUSE TIKTOK BAN

President-elect Donald Trump has gone to the U.S. Supreme Court to ask the justices to pause the proposed ban of TikTok.

A federal court recently denied Tiktok's request to freeze a law banning the app in the U.S. unless it is sold to a company outside China. Attorneys for Trump have requested the justices hit pause on the ban, which is set to kick in on 1/19, just before he returns to the White House. The Biden administration opposes the pause, maintaining its stance that the app is a danger to national security due to the Chinese government’s alleged involvement with its parent company, ByteDance.

Trump’s attorney, D. John Sauer, wrote, “President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the Court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment while it considers the merits of this case, thus permitting President Trump’s incoming administration the opportunity to pursue a political resolution of the questions at issue in the case.”

Trump tried to ban TikTok in 2020 on grounds of national security but was blocked by the court. He now says he has "a warm spot" for the app.

SCOTUS is set to take the case on 1/10.
