THE B-SIDE
MUNA (RCA)
11/13/16

WHAT IT IS: Named “the buzzing breakout trio [of SXSW] with a Cali ‘dark pop’ sound” (Blackbook), the members of MUNA—Katie Gavin (lead vocals/production), Naomi McPherson(production/guitar/synths/vocals) and Josette Maskin (lead guitar/vocals)—have recorded, written, and self-produced all of their own music to date. Their music blends the brooding sensuality of R&B, rhythms of funk and pop rock and the audacity of synthpop with raw, unbridled lyricism. Based in L.A., these USC grads released their debut EP earlier this year, which perfectly showcases the band’s ear for crafting poignant tunes.
