WHAT IT IS: Janelle Monae’s new venture with Epic, Wondaland Records, is a vessel for Janelle’s powers as a curator and tastemaker to fully take form. A name given at birth, Jidenna means “embracing the father,” in the Igbo language. His music is a testimony to the contrasting experiences that have shaped, complicated and ultimately defined his life.
