9/9/19

We are saddened to report that LaShawn Daniels, songwriter of Destiny Child’s 1999 hit “Say My Name” and multiple other hits, died in a car crash on 9/4 in South Carolina. He was 41.

The eight-time Grammy nominee was behind hit songs for artists like Michael Jackson, Brandy and Monica, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, The Spice Girls, Toni Braxton, Natasha Bedingfield and Whitney Houston.

President and CEO of the Recording Academy Deborah Dugan said, “LaShawn ‘Big Shiz’ Daniels will be deeply missed by many, but will be remembered as a music maker who left a lasting legacy to our creative community.”
