GUARDIANS 3 ST: MUSIC FOR YOUR INNER STARCHILD

The third installment of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is reportedly darker than its predecessors, and this is to some degree reflected in the newly released track list for the Hollywood soundtrack (due 5/5, like the flick).

That moody tone is set by an acoustic rendition of "Creep" by Radiohead before the mixtape veers off into hearty classic rock (Heart, Rainbow, Springsteen, Redbone), vintage alternative (Spacehog, The Flaming Lips, X, Faith No More, The The, The Replacements), more-modern modern rock (Florence + The Machine, The Mowgli's) and other galaxy-saving fare, including that extraterrestrial favorite "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" by The Beastie Boys (a band also beloved by young Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot, but we digress). The toothsome double-LP version on "Galaxy Glitter" vinyl lists for $39.98.

Here's what we do know: The Guardians series uses music as robustly and dynamically as anything in the popcorn-proffering universe, so it's reasonable to expect that this latest installment will, like its predecessors, gin up significant activity for at least some of these tracks. Also: Ken Bunt's spirit animal is a wisecracking raccoon.
