BEACH BOYS '70s GEMS REVISITED

Two of the Beach Boys’ more ambitious albums of the 1970s, 1972’s Carl and the Passions–“So Tough” and 1973’s Holland, are getting the expanded-edition treatment from Capitol Records/UMe in the boxed set Sail On Sailor–1972.

The latest chapter in the Beach Boys archival series will be released 11/18. Mark Linett and Alan Boyd, the team behind 2013’s Grammy-winning SMiLE Sessions and last year’s Feel Flows–The Sunflower and Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971, produced the set.

The six-CD Super Deluxe Edition features newly remastered versions of Carl and Holland, plus the Holland’s Mount Vernon and Fairway (A Fairytale) EP (complete with its original instructions to “please listen in the dark”) and a previously unreleased concert recorded at Carnegie Hall on Thanksgiving 1972. It’s the first release of a complete Beach Boys concert from the era when Carl Wilson was largely at the group's helm.

Sail On Sailor–1972 contains 105 tracks, 80 of which are previously unreleased. A five-LP vinyl box will also be available.
