The Prince Estate and Sony’s Legacy Recordings have set 7/30 for the release of an expanded edition of his shelved 2010 album Welcome 2 America.
The Deluxe Edition includes the complete studio vault album on CD and black vinyl (accompanied with a hi-res digital download) plus a never-before-released full concert video of Prince’s 4/28/11 show at The Forum, part of his 21 Nite Stand at the Inglewood arena.
The concert is loaded with covers, Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love,” Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music” and Roxy Music’s “More Than This” among them.
CBS’s 60 Minutes has a story on the album scheduled for Sunday. The title track, “Welcome 2 America,” is available now on streaming platforms.
Welcome 2 America contains songs that reflected Prince’s concerns and visions for a changing society; he presciently foreshadowed an era of political division, disinformation and a renewed fight for racial justice.
