ABBEY ROAD, DOCUMENTED

UMG’s Mercury Studios is developing the first feature-length documentary on the history of London’s Abbey Road Studios. Photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney, daughter of Sir Paul, will direct If These Walls Could Sing.

The centerpiece of the recording studios’ 90th anniversary celebrations, which begin in November, the doc will tell stories featuring an all-star cast of interviewees, share unparalleled access to the studios and, of course, deliver a spellbinding soundtrack.

“Some of my earliest memories as a young child come from time spent at Abbey Road,” McCartney said. “I’ve long wanted to tell the story of this historic place and I couldn’t be collaborating with a better team than John and Mercury Studios to make this creative ambition a reality.”

Award-winning producer John Battsek (Searching for Sugar Man, Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars, Whitney: Can I Be Me) will helm production following a new development deal between Mercury Studios and his studio Ventureland. Universal Music U.K.’s Marc Robinson and Mercury Studios CEO Alice Webb will executive produce.
