MERCURY STUDIOS ENTERS UMG ORBIT

Universal Music Group has formed Mercury Studios to develop, produce and invest in music-based visual storytelling.

Mercury Studios will absorb global film and television producer Eagle Rock Entertainment. Eagle Rock CEO Alice Webb will lead the studio, which will have offices in London and Los Angeles. She will report to Universal Music U.K. Chairman and CEO David Joseph.

Mercury Studios, Joseph said, “will bring together the very best in the business under the exceptional leadership of Alice, who has already proved herself as a dynamic creative innovator."

Mercury Studios will produce content with music as the foundation for projects in performance/live, factual/reality, scripted, artist and filmmaker partnerships and remastering and audio originals via film and television content, podcasts and short-form content. In addition, it will leverage Eagle Rock’s global sales division alongside home video and digital media distribution.

Mercury’s projects will be announced over the coming weeks.
