IS THE NEW BLACK
Voltron's Tyrese has topped both the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 65k and the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 77k for his seventh studio album (mixtapes not included), Black Rose.
Black Rose marks Caroline's third #1 record this year, following Hopeless' All Time Low and ATO's Alabama Shakes. This is the first time in the distributor's history that they've landed a single #1, let alone three.
Meanwhile, Razor & Tie's latest edition of Kidz Bop Kids follows right behind at #2 with 38k.
As for the other debuts, R5's Sometime Last Night (Hollywood) rounds out the Top 5 with 28k, Between the Buried & Me's Coma Ecliptic (Metal Blade) appears at #6 and Owl City's Mobile Orchestra (Republic) bows at #8.
Powered by a $7.99 sale at iTunes, Bob Marley & the Wailers' Legend (Island) shoots back up the chart, landing at #12. The soothing tones of classic reggae, of course, remind us that we need to load some fragrant herb into our bong now that this Friday release day is finally coming to a close.
A handful of other classic acts also enjoyed strong bumps on greatest hits compilations thanks to the iTunes sale: Journey (#23), Foo Fighters (#26) and Bob Seger (#48). Pass the legal chronic. We need it for our joint pain. By which we main the pain of not having smoked a joint all day.
Amy Winehouse's classic statement, Back to Black (Republic), re-entered the chart at #43, driven by the nationwide release of A24's documentary, Amy.
At SPS, Columbia's Rachel Platten is this week's big winner. Thanks to the smash "Fight Song," currently the #5 single at iTunes, Platten's EP enjoys the view at #19, although it hasn't even charted when it comes to album sales alone.
Looks like this Friday release date thing might work out after all. At the very least, we can promise you that there will definitely be ten albums in the Top 10 next week.
Today brings new releases from A1/Freebandz/Epic's Future, Capitol Nashville's Alan Jackson and Souteastern's Jason Isbell, among others.
