It’s not surprising that the first advice offered by Lyor Cohen in a new Business Insider profile—one of many recent press appearances he’s made to tout YouTube’s new subscription service—is “Forget the past.” After all, Cohen’s own past is filled with incidents of treachery, ruthless advancement of his own agenda and, of course, bullshit. When it comes to the past, therefore, he’ll always be rewriting history.
In the piece, he warns of the domination of Spotify and Apple Music, even though it’s YouTube that has the most users and pays the least—and has failed to stop the proliferation of unauthorized content.
Here’s some advice you can really use, to tell if Cohen is lying: Are his lips moving? Like another Cohen in the news—Trump attorney Michael Cohen—he’s a fixer who can’t fix anything, has a penchant for throwing his colleagues under the bus and is a relentless source of fake news.
If you’ve got a strong stomach, read the whole profile here (it’s behind a paywall).
