Sam Smith has scored his sixth U.K. Official Singles #1 as “Too Good at Goodbyes” (Capitol) hits the top on 62k combined sales. That’s made up of 4.4m streams and 33k downloads. The track is also #1 in Australia (a first) and New Zealand.
Only six British men have had more songs hit the top spot in Blighty and “Too Good at Goodbyes"—the first new music from Smith's upcoming second set—is the sixth song to debut at #1 this year. Prior to the release of his first album, Smith's career gathered heat with a #1 single in 2014 with "Money On My Mind," and Naughty Boy's "La La La" before that.
The second highest new entry this week is Zayn’s collab with Sia, “Dusk Till Dawn” (RCA), which enters at #5. Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” (Warner Bros.) holds at #2, “Look What You Made Me Do” (Virgin EMI) by Taylor Swift is down to #3 and “What About Us” (RCA) by Pink moves down one place to #4.
Over on the Official Albums Chart, The National have scored their first #1 with Sleep Well Beast (4AD). RCA band Nothing But Thieves are the second highest entrants at #2 with Broken Machine, followed by Neil Young’s Hitchhiker (Reprise) at #6. Sparks celebrate their first Top 10 in more than 40 years with Hippopotamus at #7.
