SANDBLOOM EXITS KROQ: WEATHERLY'S MESSAGE TO
THE TROOPS

Below is an internal memo that Kevin Weatherly, SVP of Programming for CBS Radio and Program Director of KROQ and Jack-FM, shared with his team yesterday:

“After 25 years, Gene Sandbloom will be leaving KROQ to make the move to his recently acquired home in France. Gene's dedication, passion and tremendous work ethic will be sorely missed. He first came to KROQ as Music Director in the fall of 1992. He quickly rose to the position of Operations Manager and took on whatever challenge was thrown his way. He has made so many important contributions to the success of KROQ throughout the years and has always done it with a first-class attitude and approach. He is highly respected in the industry and we have benefited greatly from many of his key relationships.

Gene has taken on so many roles and is truly the 'Jack of all trades!' In addition to his KROQ responsibilities, he has been scheduling the music on JACK for the last several years and has been a key to the success of that station. He took over producing Openline for the cluster a couple of years ago, was the 'go-to' guy for writing all of the Marconi and Crystal Awards submissions for KROQ, worked closely with sales and promotions to ensure that we were over-delivering on client commitments, and has been an important voice in all strategic programming decisions during his time at KROQ.

Gene's last day is this Friday. Please be on the lookout for an official 'bon voyage' in the coming weeks.”

Prior to Gene's 25 years at KROQ, he was Music Director at KIIS-FM, A&R Director at MCA Records and Managing Editor of Network 40 Magazine. After Friday, he will be heading to the Sierras to solo backpack the John Muir Trail, followed by a quick stop in Cuba, before heading to France. Gene will be traveling the world looking for his next opportunity, whether it be, according to Gene, in “Africa, Asia, Europe, or back here in the States—anything and everything is on the table.”
