SESAC BROWSES BLIGHTY

Remember when hedge fund Blackstone bought music rights org SESAC in January? As a result of the investment, SESAC is sniffing around Europe for acquisitions.

British mechanical rights company MCPS is said to be in SESAC’s sights. The firm was created by the Music Publishers Association (MPA) as a means to issue mechanical licenses to those wanting to make a copy of a song in the U.K. It has a turnover of around £140m ($172m) per year.

The society exists largely for full-time songwriters and it currently has 26k members—20k writers and 6k publishers.
