THOMPSON NAMED PRESIDENT, MAVERICK MUSIC

Greg Thompson has been tapped as President of Maverick Music, Maverick founder Guy Oseary has announced. In his new role, Thompson will be responsible for "optimizing and identifying opportunities for talent," which sounds way more corporate than "managing the managers." He's slated to begin at the new post in mid-June.

The well-liked biz veteran comes to the firm from Capitol Music Group, where he served as EVP overseeing sales, promotion, marketing, PR, creative services, video, digital planning, strategic research and preventing us from making "corner office in the Tower" jokes. CMG chief Steve Barnett sent his appreciation and best wishes in an internal memo.

Maverick's roster includes Madonna, Paul McCartney, U2, Pharrell Williams, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Lil Wayne, Jason Aldean, Arcade Fire, OneRepublic, Soundgarden, T.I., The Roots, G-Eazy, Fifth Harmony and Rascal Flatts.

Oseary credits Maverick manager Ron Laffitte with the recommendation to bring Thompson in during a meeting, noting that "Every single Maverick manager immediately and unanimously agreed. We knew that Greg's experience and reputation would be a huge asset to the artists we work for." With the challenges and possibilities now facing the biz, Oseary added, "you want the best captain steering the ship. We now have that with Greg on the team. And no, I won't give him any AirBnb stock"

“I’m excited for this amazing chance to join a team with such a progressive and innovative culture and vision. I want to thank Guy and the rest of the all-star managers at Maverick for this opportunity. I’m really looking forward to this next chapter. Just a quick question: What, exactly, is a management company?”

Thompson's sordid past includes stints at EMI, Island Def Jam, Elektra, SBK and Chrysalis. As a result, we have a folder bulging with vintage headshots chronicling Greg's adventures in coiffure and facial hair. Stay tuned.
