Cold War Kids return with a fantastic new single "Love Is Mystical." Look for Capitol's Gary Gorman to guide this one quickly up the charts!
Green Day's "Still Breathing" (Warner Bros.) remains comfortably at #1 for a third week. The Lumineers' latest hit "Cleopatra" (Dualtone) rises #6-3. New to the Top 10 and entering at #8 is Rag N Bone Man's "Human" (Columbia), up 200 spins. Bishop Briggs' "Wild Horses" (Island/Teleport) rises to #14. Milky Chance's "Cocoon" (Republic) goes Top 20. Missio's debut single "Middle Fingers" (RCA) makes a spectacular debut at #28. Imagine Dragons' new single "Believer" (KidinaKorner) debuts at #32, while Marian Hill's "Down" (Photo Finish/Republic) also debuts impressively at #33. And finally, Sigma's "Find Me" f/Birdy (Astralwerks/Capitol) will debut on the chart as well.
Congrats to RCA's Dennis Blair for a spectacular start with Missio's "Middle Fingers." In a out of nowhere way Dennis quickly has 35 stations and virtually every major station in on this Slacker Anthem for the ages. In more impressive fashion the track will debut at an eye popping #28 on Monday.
A band to watch and pay attention to in 2017 is Sundara Karma. Check out the band's "She Said" which to me has a Walk The Moon "Shut Up And Dance" feel to it. The Bee & El/RED act will be lead by the label's Scott Burton who has a real good one on his hands here.
It's been a huge week for The Lumineers! 2 SOLD OUT shows at Madison Square Garden and an appearance on The Tonight Show! "Angela" is my favorite track from the record, and in my opinion an instant classic.
Many congrats to John Allers and Amber Miller from WRFF Philadelphia for putting together a great two days celebrating the station's 10th Birthday. The first show on May 13th features Kings Of Leon, Empire Of The Sun, Bastille, and The 1975 among others. The second concert on June 11th features The Killers, Bleachers, Foster The People and Kaleo among others. Radio 104.5 PD John Allers said, "We knew we had to something especially huge for our loyal listeners." Did he ever! I always say what makes a Modern Rock station great is the people who program it. In this case John and Amber are the reasons the station is so special and influential.
Oh the memories I have with Depeche Mode. For me my introduction to them was with "Just Can't Get Enough." I actually own an imported 12inch of that classic. Then of course came "Everything Counts", "People Are People", "Blasphemous Rumors" and "A Question Of Lust" during my college years. I can keep going. Then the 90's and more classics like "Enjoy The Silence", "Policy Of Truth", "Walking In My Shoes" and "I Feel You" all #1's at Modern Rock. Keep in mind the Modern Rock chart didn't exist in the 80's so who knows how many more #1's they would have had. I remember in 1990 living in Boston failing at all attempts to get a job in the record industry reading and hearing about this crazy in store the band did in Los Angeles with the legendary KROQ.
Can you imagine 10,000 people showing up for an in-store? At that time a truly incredible moment. I always blink when I start doing the math as to how long ago that was. As we start 2017 how cool is it to see Depeche Mode still making great music. Check out "Where's The Revolution" which came out today.
Such an impressive ad from Bill Burrs.....and oh yeah Highly Suspect's "My Name Is Human" is a big hit record.
