WHAT IT IS: Fresh out of high school, this Salt Lake City foursome came together with a shared love for heavy guitars and rock ’n’ roll aspirations akin to those of Cage the Elephant and Arctic Monkeys. In 2018, the group self-released an EP, while their full-length debut album, 2019’s When We Were Friends, accumulated 55m+ streams thanks to the success of their single, “Kilby Girl.” Now crossing over to Alt radio, the track is entering the Top 20, with early champions including KKDO and Alt Nation. The Backseat Lovers are currently working on their sophomore LP, slated for release later in 2021.
