WHAT IT IS: Since his entrance into mainstream music in 2011, DJ Mustard has produced dozens of hit singles for other artists. Having begun DJing at the age of 11, Mustard blends synth sounds with a variety of tricks from the popular music canon—piano, trap clicks, electro claps and heavy drops. West Coast rapper YG was one of the first few people to use his signature beats. He’s produced dozens of platinum and multi-platinum hits, including “Rack City” for Tyga, “IDFWU” for Big Sean, “Show Me” for Omarion f/Chris Brown and “I’m Different” for 2 Chainz. Mustard’s 2013 debut mixtape Ketchup featured appearances by YG, Dom Kennedy, Lil Jon, Nipsey Hussle and others. Fresh off contributions to Rihanna, Kid Ink and Ty Dolla Sign’s latest singles, he flexes his own unique style on one-off single “Whole Lotta Lovin,” featuring Travi$ Scott. The track’s official video has already racked up 6m views on YouTube.
