WHAT IT IS: The Oxnard, Calif.-bred songwriter/drummer/producer (and Dr. Dre protégé) is the newest signee to Aftermath, and was the most-featured artist on the Grammy-nominated Compton album. His just-released Malibu—the follow-up to debut album Venice, which dropped in 2014—is a maturation of Anderson’s journey from soul and R&B into hip hop and modern dance music, which gives listeners a deep look into his personal experience and artistic growth. Feature collaborations include ScHoolboy Q, The Game, Talib Kwelli, BJ The Chicago Kid, 9th Wonder and Rapsody.
