DISCOVERY: SAM DEW
7/14/15

Feast your ears on this delectable track from my latest discovery, Sam Dew. His alternative, synthy R&B grooves get my mouth watering, as I daydream about his performance at the El Rey last night. He's currently supporting Mad Love/Interscope's buzzing breakout Ryn Weaver on her North American tour. At times during his set, I thought I was in the presence of some Marvin Gaye/Miguel/Tame Impala hybrid. Yea, it's definitely a little bit out there, but I like it that way.

It might not be party-starting music, but I get the feeling it really sets the tone for some primo joint-smoking and/or baby-making. Watch the audio vid for "Lies" below, but make sure you're sitting down, as his soaring falsetto could knock you sideways.

Turns out the Chicago-bred newcomer isn't entirely new, however. You may recognize his sultry vocals from the hook he wrote and sang on Wale's "LoveHate Thing." Dew has also written for a handful of artists you've probably heard of. I'm thinking the names Rihanna and Mary J. Blige just might ring some bells...

Now focusing on his own solo career, Dew recently inked a deal with RCA and dropped his debut EP, Damn Sue, in April.

Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked to see what the future has in store for this intriguing singer/songwriter.

xx,
Samantha Hissong
