TRUMP ASKS SCOTUS TO PAUSE TIKTOK BAN

President-elect Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to pause the proposed U.S. ban of TikTok.

A federal court recently denied TikTok's request to freeze a law banning the app unless it's sold to a non-Chinese company. The law is scheduled to take effect 1/19, just before Trump returns to the White House.

The Biden administration opposes the delay, maintaining its stance that the app is a danger to national security due to the Chinese government’s alleged involvement with parent company ByteDance.

Trump’s attorney D. John Sauer wrote, “President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the Court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment while it considers the merits of this case, thus permitting President Trump’s incoming administration the opportunity to pursue a political resolution of the questions at issue in the case.”

Trump tried to ban TikTok in 2020 on national security grounds but was blocked by the court. He now says he has "a warm spot" for the app.

SCOTUS is set to take up the case on 1/10.
