U.K. CHARTS: THE CURE, GRACIE ABRAMS HIT #1

The Cure has its first U.K. Official Albums #1 in 32 years with Songs of a Lost World. On the singles chart, Gracie Abrams (pictured) scores her first chart-topper.

Songs of a Lost World (Polydor), which shifted 51.4k in sales, outsold the rest of the Top 5 combined to reach the summit. It earns the Robert Smith-led band its 23rd Top 40 album. In a surprising feat, the project trumped the opening-week sales of The Cure's previous album, 2008's 4:13 Dream, by a factor of seven.

Elsewhere, Ed Sheeran’s +–=÷× (Tour Collection) (Atlantic) rebounds seven to its previous peak of #5 following its arrival on physical formats.

Bolstered by the release of its own Deluxe Edition, Abrams’ former #1, The Secret of Us (Interscope), rises seven to #8. Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT (Interscope) is also up seven, to #9.

On the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart, Abrams’ “That’s So True” rises two to #1. The track emerged victorious in a tight battle with Gigi Perez's “Sailor Song” (Island), which heads to #2 after moving just under 1.2k in chart units less than the Abrams song.

“APT.” (Atlantic) by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars is at #3, while Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!” (Island) is her second Top 5, at #5.

“Thick of It” (Atlantic) by KSI and Trippie Redd climbs two to #6 courtesy of a remix featuring NLE Choppa. “Bed Chem” (Island) by Sabrina Carpenter rises two to #7, making this her fourth Top 10 hit from Short 'n Sweet after three prior chart-toppers.

“The Door” (Atlantic) by Teddy Swims is his second Top 10 single, at #8. Further down, his “Bad Dreams” enters the Top 20 at #15.

The week’s highest new entry is “São Paulo” (Republic) by The Weeknd and Anitta, which starts at #22.
