The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 4-2 at Dodgers Stadium on Saturday night (10/26) in Game 2 of the 2024 World Series—and the historic matchup was full of highlights.
The pre-game ceremony included a flawless performance from teen phenom Pearle Peterson, who sang the national anthem for a second consecutive year. Peterson, a student at the University of Illinois, is a former member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a major partner for MLB's youth-related initiatives.
Ice Cube, dressed head-to-toe in Dodgers gear, then dissed the Yankees with a performance of Westside Connection's "Bow Down" in which he changed some of the lyrics to "bow down to a team that's greater than you," cranking up the crowd. He also did a live rendition of his 1993 smash "It Was a Good Day."
Game 1, which took place on Friday (10/25), ended with Freddie Freeman's spectacular walk off grand slam in the 10th inning, leading to a 6-3 victory for the Dodgers. Freeman's 3-year-old son, Maximus, was on deck to watch his father clinch the win after surviving Guillain-Barré syndrome just months earlier, making the moment that much sweeter.
The opener was the most-watched Fall Classic game in five years, reeling in more than 15.2m viewers on Fox, Fox Deportes, Univision and streaming. Nielsen reported that the audience peaked at 17.8m from the 10th inning until the game’s conclusion. The Dodgers currently lead the series 2-0. Game 3 is tonight (10/28) at 5pm PT—and Shohei Ohtani, who injured his left shoulder during a steal attempt Saturday night, is expected to play. We'll be sporting blue and shouting "LFG!"
