Live Nation's national nonprofit arm, the Music Forward Foundation, raised $300k at its second annual Awards Brunch and Golf Classic in Los Angeles.
Brunch honorees at City Club included Incubus for its Make Yourself Foundation's commitment to sustainability (pictured: frontman Brandon Boyd); original Lollapalooza tour director Stuart Ross; Sankofa.org and its CEO Gina Belaftone for their work addressing social justice issues; Loud Records' Steve Rifkind for his impact on the industry; Brooklyn Bowl co-founder Peter Shapiro for the venue's innovation and BMG for its commitment to equality.
Singer Judith Hill performed at the event, while KCRW's Novena Carmel hosted and colleague Raul Campos spun tunes. In addition, Pollstar announced the creation of a journalism internship named after late publicist Maxie Solters.
“So many young people dream of a life in music and our industry. It can look easy to be a successful musician, songwriter, promoter, venue owner but to so many young people with those dreams, those opportunities don’t exist," Music Forward Foundation Executive Director Nurit Smith said. "That is why we exist. Music Forward is here to remove those barriers to ensure that under-represented voices have a bridge into the industry and into life-long sustaining skills and careers. And in turn, the industry becomes more accessible, vibrant, and inclusive for all."
