STEVIE FINDS "LIGHT" AMID PRE-ELECTION ANXIETY

Stevie Nicks offers a potent, pre-election call to action on "The Lighthouse" (Warner Records), her first new original music in nearly four years.

“I wrote this song a few months after Roe v. Wade was overturned," Nicks said of "The Lighthouse," which was produced by the artist with longtime friend Sheryl Crow and Nashville producer extraordinaire Dave Cobb. "It seemed like overnight, people were saying, 'What can we, as a collective force, do about this?' For me, it was to write a song. It took a while because I was on the road. Then early one morning I was watching the news on TV and a certain newscaster said something that felt like she was talking to me—explaining what the loss of Roe v. Wade would come to mean. I wrote the song the next morning and recorded it that night."

"That was 9/6/2022," the Fleetwood Mac vocalist continued. "I've been working on it ever since. I have often said to myself, 'This may be the most important thing I ever do. To stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters—and the men that love them.' This is an anthem.”

"The Lighthouse" was co-written by Nicks with Swedish dance-music figure Solar Fields (Magnus Birgersson) and AES DANA's Vincent Villuis, who have previously recorded together as H.UV.A.NETWORK. Crow and Nicks' sister Lori provide backing vocals, while the former plays both bass and electric guitar. Famed axeman Waddy Wachtel, Nicks' decades-long band member, contributes additional six-string work.

As the Mark "Spike" Stent-mixed music conjures an ominous, modern sound, the lyrics of "The Lighthouse" warn against complacency.

Is it a nightmare
Is it a lasting scar
It is unless you save it
And that's that
Unless you stand up
And take it back

Nicks, who will serve as the musical guest on the 10/12 episode of NBC's Saturday Night Live, will first be back onstage tomorrow (9/28) at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She will also join Billy Joel for a one-off blowout 3/29/2025 at Detroit's Ford Field.
