AMAZON MUSIC CELEBRATES MÚSICA MEXICANA

Amazon Music is celebrating música Mexicana with its monthlong campaign Gen Mex, which encompasses original songs, a documentary and an exclusive livestreamed concert.

The first episode of GEN MEX: Your Generation of Música Mexicana (see trailer below) is available now on the Amazon Music app. Part two will premiere on 9/30. Executive-produced by Jessy Terrero and directed by Alejandra Hinojosa, the doc traces Mexican music's global takeover through the voices of the artists, producers, songwriters, executives and tastemakers who are creating its contemporary iteration. The acts featured include Fuerza Regida, Natanael Cano, Banda MS, Estevie and Grupo Frontera.

To provide a soundtrack to the documentary and illustrate how música Mexicana connects generations, Interscope's Xavi has released an Amazon Music Original cover of one of Marco Antonio Solís’ biggest hits, “Invéntame.”

On 9/24, Sony's Eden Muñoz will drop “Piensa en mí,” a Spanish-language Amazon Original version of “Pense em Mim,” a sertanejo song first recorded by Brazilian duo Leandro e Leonardo.

Amazon Music will also present a concert livestreamed from Mexico and headlined by Muñoz, Xavi, Chiquis and Michelle Maciel on 9/24. The show can be seen on Prime Video and Amazon Music's Twitch channel.

“During the past years, we’ve witnessed the tremendous growth and impact of Mexican music in the world,” said Amazon Music Head of Music, Latin-Iberia, Rocio Guerrero. “We want to emphasize that influence and dive deeper into the story behind its evolution. In 2024, música Mexicana has grown 249% year-over-year globally on Amazon Music, becoming the #1 Latin genre on our service. This campaign is for all the fans and artists who've made this movement possible.”
