U.K. MIDWEEKS: OASIS RETURNS TO #1

After sending the country into a frenzy by putting its reunion-tour tickets on sale, Oasis is heading for #1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart with the 30th anniversary edition of Definitely Maybe (Big Brother). On the singles midweek tally, Sabrina Carpenter will once again hold onto the top three spots.

The reissued Definitely Maybe, which last reached #1 three decades ago, has risen four spots at today’s halfway point. This edition of Oasis' debut includes previously unreleased demos from the group’s original Monnow Valley and Sawmills Studios sessions on a variety of physical and digital formats.

Oasis' chart domination extends to the 2009 hits compilation Time Flies… (1994-2009), which is expected to jump one to #2, while the Gallagher brothers' second LP, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, is at #5. Meanwhile, the 1998 B-sides compilation The Masterplan is expected to ascend 63 places to #35. The previous year's Be Here Now is up 49 to #37.

Elsewhere on the albums roundup, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds could earn a seventh Top 10, with Wild God (PIAS Recordings) at #3, while English rock act Wunderhorse could have a career best with its second set, Midas (Communion), at #6.

On the U.K.’s Official Singles midweeks, Carpenter’s “Taste” (Island), “Please Please Please” and “Espresso” rule the upper reaches, but “Live Forever” by Oasis could be a competitor, having been lifted 15 to #4. The Definitely Maybe single peaked at #10 in 1994.

Two more Oasis classics are likewise on the ascent: “Don’t Look Back in Anger” is at #7 and “Wonderwall” at #8 after both rose nine positions.

“Somedays” (Solotoko) by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D is up one to #13, and “The Door” (Warner Records) by Teddy Swims is up two to #20.
