Secretly Distribution will soon be spreading the word about Oh Boy Records via a new worldwide distribution deal.
Oh Boy, which was founded by the late John Prine and continues to be run by his family, boasts a catalog that includes releases by Prine, Kelsey Waldon, Swamp Dogg and Alice Randall. A re-release of a six-song EP and full album by Palmyra (one of NPR's Best New Artists of 2024) and Dan Reeder’s Smithereens, due 10/4, will inaugurate the partnership.
On 9/18 Secretly and Oh Boy will co-host "Independents' Day," an AmericanaFest party at Nashville’s Vinyl Tap featuring performances by OB artists and other SD-affiliated labels.
Josh Madell, Secretly’s director of Artist and Label Strategy, hailed Oh Boy as "a truly iconic American independent label—founded by artists, for artists looking for a sustainable way to release music outside of the major label system," adding, "Their ethos perfectly aligns with what we strive for at SD."
Said Oh Boy managing partner Jody Whelan (pictured above with Prine), "Oh Boy is thrilled to be able to join Secretly Distribution at this time of growth and expansion for both companies. We've long been fans of the artists they work with, but in getting to know their team it also quickly became clear that Secretly holds dear the same independent values—the values that have fueled Oh Boy since its inception in 1981."
