LOLLA LIFE: Chappell Roan (Wasserman) ruled the roost, blink-182 (CAA) delivered its signature irreverent pop/punk and The Killers (WME) paid homage to a local hero lost as Lollapalooza overtook Chicago's Grant Park last weekend.
Roan’s insatiable star power attracted so many people on 8/1 that it was later called the biggest daytime set promoter C3 Presents has ever hosted. The divine Miss C's onstage party, which featured a spicy kiss-off to an ex prior to the song "My Kink Is Karma," was indeed one of the reasons more than 100,000 fans showed up at each of the festival's four days. Not bad for your first Lolla.
"I was crying as I walked onstage because of the overwhelming support," Roan (pictured) wrote on X. "I will remember this forever."
The 22-year-old even inspired the repertoire of blink-182, which worked a snippet of her "Pink Pony Club" into its own "Dammit." The Killers, meanwhile, covered “Very First Lie" by Chicago power-pop heroes Material Issue, whose lead singer, Jim Ellison, committed suicide in 1996.
Sets by Future x Metro Boomin (Wasserman), Skrillex (Wasserman) and Deftones (CAA) also earned glowing notices. If only George's Cocktail Lounge was still open for the afterparty...
ALL ABOUT THAT BASS: The Hard Summer 2024 music festival, held over the weekend at Hollywood Park, next to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, pulsated throughout the West Side of Los Angeles and may have generated the largest number of noise complaints ever for a single concert event in the area.
Featuring techno, house and dubstep, the fête drew roughly 70,000 daily attendees. “We are aware of the loud booming sound affecting the city,” the El Segundo Police Department posted on X. “It is originating from a music festival near SoFi Stadium. There is no need to call 911 to report.”
This year's lineup included Disclosure (Wasserman), Nelly Furtado (CAA), Jamie xx (Wasserman), REZZMAU5 and Kerri Chandler.
