Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has received permission from Beyoncé to use the song "Freedom" throughout her campaign, according to CNN.
Harris emerged to "Freedom" during a visit to her Wilmington, Delaware, campaign headquarters yesterday (7/22). “What kind of country do we want to live in? A country of freedom, compassion and rule of law, or a country of chaos, fear and hate?," she asked the crowd.
The studio version of "Freedom" appears on Beyoncé's 2016 album Lemonade and features Kendrick Lamar. It contains samples of recordings made by folklorist Alan Lomax of Reverend R.C. Crenshaw and a prisoner at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in the 1940s and '50s.
Although Beyoncé has yet to officially endorse Harris in the wake of President Joe Biden's decision over the weekend to withdraw his nomination for a second term, she has consistently supported Democrats, including performing at Barack Obama's second inauguration in 2013.
"Freedom" was produced by Bey, Jonny Coffer and Just Blaze; its credited writers are Bey, Coffer, Carla Marie Williams, Dean McIntosh, Lamar, Frank Tirado, Alan Lomax and John Lomax, Sr.
