During the Republican National Convention, Todd Rundgren and Donald Fagen clapped back after the event's house band, Sixwire, played Steely Dan's "Reelin' in the Years" amid covers of material by Journey, Lee Greenwood, REO Speedwagon and Uncle Kracker.
A message posted on SteelyDan.com reads, "Hey! Sixwire: If you want to play our music, how about playing 'The Man in the Tin Foil Hat?" The reference is to a 2017 song released by Rundgren and featuring vocals from Fagen with lyrics like "'Cause the man in the tin foil hat/ Is gonna drain the swamp tonight/ And fill it up with alternative facts/ It's gonna be great, tremendous, amazing and all that," making it quite clear how they feel about today's political environment.
The original "Tin Foil Hat" video appears below, and it sure puts the "Pluto" in "plutocrat."
