HOTTER THAN JULY:
LIGHTING UP DSPs

Island’s Chappell Roan is on fire, with multiple tracks blazing on the grill as summer temps soar. Sawgod/Columbia’s Ella Langley grows at DSPs and takes over TikTok, while new tracks by veterans Eminem and Childish Gambino are going off like M-80s. These surging songs add up to some serious July 4th pyrotechnics for the biz.

Roan's incredible rise continues, with "Hot To Go" joining "Good Luck, Babe!" on Spotify's U.S. Top 10; she now has four tracks in the Top 30. Roan's debut full-length, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, is headed for its biggest sales week yet, spoiling for a Top 5 slot with 61k+. If "Good Luck, Babe!" were magically added to Princess (it’s being reserved for her forthcoming set, we’re told), Roan would likely have the #2 album this week.

Langley climbs to the Top 25 of both Apple Music and Spotify U.S. with her viral cut "you look like you love me" f/Riley Green. The track is currently the fifth-biggest song at TikTok as fans await Langley's debut album, hungover, due on 8/4.

A new Eminem song arrives as the rap god locks in The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) for 7/12. Em's "Tobey" f/Babytron & Big Sean (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) opened in the Top 40 on Spotify U.S., and the Top 20 refuses to let "Houdini" escape.

RCA's Childish Gambino, meanwhile, has dropped “Lithonia,” the first taste of what’s being touted as his final album, the film soundtrack Bando Stone & the New World (out 7/19). Produced by all-star maestros Ludwig Göransson, Max Martin and Michael Uzowuru, the track opened at #50 on Spotify U.S. on its first full day of activity. Gambino's refrain, "Nobody gives a fuck," seems primed to go viral. Will Gen Z agree?
