85 SHOWS SET FOR NYC'S SUMMERSTAGE SEASON

Live music lovers in New York's five boroughs will need to clear their calendars this summer, as City Parks Foundation has lined up 85 free and benefit shows at 13 area parks from June through October as part of Capitol One City Parks Foundation SummerStage.

Andra Day will open the season 6/1 at Central Park's Rumsey Playfield, while other highlights include shows throughout the region by Kim Gordon and Sun Ra Arkestra (6/13), the Yussef Dayes Experience (6/22), Fonseca and Israel Fernández as part of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (7/10), NEMS' GORILLAFEST with Ghostface Killah (8/4) and a Funk Flex old school hip-hop birthday bash with Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh (8/18).

Central Park will also host several ticketed benefit shows, with proceeds allowing for the balance of the schedule to be free of charge to attendees. Those gigs will spotlight T-Pain (6/23), esteemed Mexican rock acts Caifanes and Café Tacvba (6/26), Counting Crows (7/11), comedians David Cross, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Silverman and Fred Armisen (8/8) and the Roots (pictured) with Jungle Brothers and Digable Planets (8/23).

"It's always an honor to bring a lineup of both established and rising artists that celebrate the rich cultural fabric of our neighborhoods across the city to parks, all for free," says City Parks Foundation Executive Director Heather Lubov. "Enjoying live music outside while in a park is one of the most joyful and memorable opportunities we can offer to New Yorkers."
