Latin Grammy-winning rapper and actor Residente has unveiled another ambitious visual-art piece, this time soundtracked by his song "313" and starring Penélope Cruz. The video introduces the Puerto Rican performer's second solo LP, Las Letras Ya No Importan, released 2/22 via Sony's 5020 Records.
Residente, aka René Pérez Oglari, made his acting debut as the lead in Alessandra Lacorazza's rapturously reviewed In the Summers, which debuted at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize U.S. Dramatic.
The "313" video was directed by Residente and produced by 1868 Studios in collaboration with World Junkies. It begins with narration by Cruz, who reflects on what life and time represent. Ballet dancers embodying time move across the scene, some floating through the air. Cruz then takes control of Residente's voice and body, which rises and slowly evaporates.
Spanish singer Silvia Pérez Cruz also appears, delivering her own powerful vocal performance in the video, filmed in Segovia, Spain, and choreographed by Juliano Nunes.
Las Letras Ya No Importan showcases both new material and songs released over the last seven years, including "Rene," for which Residente won Song of the Year at the 2020 Latin Grammys. Artists featured on the 20-track set include Rauw Alejandro, Busta Rhymes, Christian Nodal, Ricky Martin and Big Daddy Kane. The LP was named a Critic's Pick (behind a firewall) by the New York Times this week.
