WCM IS HOT BLOODED FOR JONES DEAL

Mick Jones, Foreigner’s chief songwriter during the group’s heyday, has signed an exclusive global publishing agreement with Warner Chappell Music.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee was the creative force behind such Foreigner hits as “I Want to Know What Love Is,” “Urgent,” “As Cold As Ice,” “Hot Blooded” and “Waiting for a Girl Like You.” Warner’s Rhino Entertainment represents the band's catalog.

"I am thrilled to announce that Foreigner, Warner Chappell Music and Warner Music Group have come full circle, returning to the very place where our story began,” Jones said. “It all kicked off with 'Feels Like the First Time' years ago. It is incredible to see Foreigner's music and legacy now in the capable hands of this remarkable team, including my son, Alexander Dexter-Jones, serving as executive vice president of Somerset Songs, marking an important addition to this milestone in our musical odyssey."

Jones was a member of Spooky Tooth and played with The Leslie West Band and George Harrison before forming Foreigner in 1976. He has also maintained a career as a producer, working with Bad Company and producing Billy Joel’s Storm Front and Van Halen’s 5150.

“Mick is a multi-generational songwriter whose extraordinary talent and distinctive guitar playing have defined an entire era of rock 'n' roll,” said WCM Co-Chair and CEO Guy Moot. “Today, he continues to elevate Foreigner as one of the world's greatest bands, with a catalog of songs for every occasion."

WMG President of Global Catalog Kevin Gore and Jones’ managers, Stewart Young and Phil Carson, helped piece together the deal. Recordings of classic Foreigner songs by the current lineup will now come under a new licensing agreement with Rhino, Jones and Trigger Productions.

The deal makes us wonder if anyone ever got that cassette of Head Games out of the tape deck in our mother’s Gremlin.
