LAUFEY'S STRONG "START"

Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter Laufey is experiencing a viral surge with her single "From the Start" (AWAL), which has settled into Spotify's Top 50 U.S.—it's spent 15 consecutive days charting in the Top 200. The cut is now generating 1m+ streams at Spotify daily (in 2022 the Berklee College of Music alum was the most-streamed jazz artist on the platform).

It's also exploding on TikTok, where the kids are jamming to a sped-up version of "From the Start," which incorporates bossa nova with a lounge-y pop delivery. A classically trained cellist and pianist, Laufey grew up enamored of standards by Ella Fitzgerald.

She's announced that her sophomore LP, Bewitched, will arrive 9/8. Laufey's fall U.S. headlining tour—which includes two nights at L.A.'s Theatre at The Ace Hotel—is sold out.
