UPDATE: On Spotify's global chart Thursday, the first full day of activity after the news that Tina Turner had died, the late icon had the top entry and the greatest gainer; "The Best" soared to #32, while "What's Love Got to Do With It" entered at #33, both posting 2.3m streams.
In the wake of her recent passing, legend Tina Turner reigns on the iTunes charts as fans pay homage to the enduring singer by downloading her hits—and, according to early signs, streaming them as well.
Turner currently dominates the Top 10 iTunes singles, seizing the top seven spots. “What’s Love Got to Do with It” is the #1 single there as of this writing, followed by “The Best,” “Proud Mary ('90s Version)” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome).”
Likewise, fans of the late singer have established her dominion over the download emporium's album chart, catapulting five titles into the Top 10. Turner’s 2004 greatest hits compilation, All the Best: The Hits, is holding the #1 spot on the iTunes album chart, followed by 1991’s Simply the Best compilation of hits and unreleased tracks and Private Dancer (30th Anniversary Issue) at #2 and #3, respectively. Other titles are bubbling under and could make more noise in the near future.
Streams are way, way up in the aftermath of Turner's departure, but we'll know more about that soon. Will Tina's posthumous reign be a lengthy one? Stay tuned.
