Sony Music Publishing was named Pop Publisher of the Year at ASCAP’s 2023 Pop Music Awards on 5/18, marking the second consecutive such honor for the company. SMP songwriters and composers contributed to 20 of the past year’s most influential pop songs, including “BREAK MY SOUL” by Beyoncé, “About Damn Time” by Lizzo, “Big Energy” by Latto, “Easy on Me” by Adele and “Hrs & Hrs” by Muni Long.
“Congratulations to Sony Music Publishing’s songwriter and composer honorees,” said SMP EVP/Head of A&R Walter Jones. “We are proud to champion your extraordinary creativity. Thank you, ASCAP, for this honor, and thank you to the SMP team for your incredible support.”
Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Theron Thomas, Evan Blair, Greg Kurstin, Kuk Harrell, Plested, Ashley Gorley, Josh Osborne, Jaren Johnston and Jessi Alexander were among the many award-winning songwriters honored at the ceremony. We, of course, were asked to stay far, far away.
