Rhino is jumping into the premium vinyl business with a new series of high-end, limited-edition reissues from the Warner Music catalog under the Rhino High Fidelity banner. First up are albums by The Cars and John Coltrane.
The Cars, originally released in 1978, and Coltrane’s Sound from 1964 are being issued today (5/19) as 5,000 individually numbered copies. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl, the releases feature glossy covers and “tip-on” jackets, an old-school aesthetic evoking the golden age of vinyl.
The Cars boasts a new interview with guitarist extraordinaire Elliot Easton about the gear used on the album, plus producer Roy Thomas Baker’s tracking notes for “Good Times Roll.”
Coltrane’s Sound includes notes, images of the session tapes and an archival essay by producer Tom Dowd, who engineered the album.
The Rhino High Fidelity series will continue to release two classic albums quarterly, each with the same outstanding audio and packaging quality of the initial pair.
