WEEKEND OF NUGGETS

It’s-a-Happening: Rhino is throwing a three-day party in Los Angeles to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968 and the release of a new anniversary edition.

The vinyl version of NUGGETS: 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will be released on Record Store Day, 4/22. The expanded edition appends 42 tracks to the 27 populating the 1972 original, including songs Lenny Kaye, who compiled Nuggets and its upcoming reiteration, earmarked for a follow-up, among them “96 Tears” by ? & The Mysterians, “7 and 7 Is” by Love and “Little Bit o’ Soul” by The Music Explosion, and 14 songs cut from the original anthology, including “I’m Five Years Ahead of My Time” by The Third Bardo and “99th Floor” by The Moving Sidewalks.

Honoring one of the most influential rock collections in history, Rhino's celebration starts, appropriately, on 4/20 with Kaye in conversation with DJ-producer Tana Yonas. The Q&A, presented by dublab and In Sheep’s Clothing, will take place at In Sheep's Clothing Records and stream on dublab radio 4/30.

Rhino and dublab will throw a psychedelic dance party on 4/21 at Gold Diggers featuring live music from The Violet Mindfield.

On Record Store Day, Rhino and Amoeba Hollywood will host an after-party on the roof of the Kimpton Everly Hollywood, where Kaye will spin an all-vinyl DJ set from 7-9pm.

All events are free.

Separately, Kaye is co-producing a Wild Honey Foundation concert celebrating Nuggets that will transpire 5/19 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California. A benefit for the Autism Healthcare Collaborative, it will feature performances of "psychedelic artyfacts" by artists including Van Dyke Parks, Elliot Easton, Peter Case, Peter Buck, Kathy Valentine, The Count Five, The Three O’Clock and Peter Zaremba.

No word yet on who gets to do the narration on “Moulty.”
