SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR SELLS TO HIPGNOSIS

Hipgnosis has acquired the catalog of the Grammys' first-ever Songwriter of the Year, Tobias Jesso Jr. The Merck Mercuriadis-led company (on behalf of Hipgnosis Songs Capital, a partnership between Hipgnosis and Blackstone-managed funds) has acquired 100% of Jesso's interest in the publishing copyrights, including the writer’s share of performance, of roughly 40 songs released between 2015 and 2020.

The Canadian singer-songwriter has penned several hits over the span of his relatively brief career, including Adele's "When We Were Young" and Harry Styles' "Boyfriends" from 2023 Album of the Year Harry's House.

The catalog boasts Jesso's solo work and songwriting collabs with Niall Horan, P!nk, Sia, Paloma Faith, Ruel, Shawn Mendez, Charlie Pugh, Meghan Trainor and Florence + The Machine, among others.

Said Mercuriadis, “Tobias is among the most important songwriters in contemporary music today, as demonstrated by his winning the 2023 Grammy Award for Songwriter of the Year in its inaugural year. I fell in love with his songs right from the get go with Goon eight years ago. He never fails to deliver. I’m delighted to welcome Tobias and his manager, Ben Persky, to the Hipgnosis family.”

As for us, we hear we've been uninvited to the family reunion.
