Six of Joni Mitchell’s legendary 1970s albums will receive a Mobile Fidelity upgrade, beginning next year with Ladies of the Canyon.
Rhino Entertainment and MoFi are collaborating on the release of these classics on UltraDisc One-Step 180g 45RPM double LPs and hybrid Super Audio CDs (SACD).
Numbered and limited, each UD1S boxed set will be sourced from the original analog master tapes (analog tape to DSD to analog console to lathe) and pressed on MoFi SuperVinyl. The numbered-edition SACDs will come packaged in mini-gatefold sleeves and will also be sourced from the original analog masters.
Following 1970’s Ladies of the Canyon and 1971’s Blue will be For the Roses (1972), Court and Spark (1974), The Hissing of Summer Lawns (1975) and Hejira (1976).
“Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has eyed these timeless Joni Mitchell albums for years,” said label President Jim Davis. “There’s a direct line between the current wave of vital contemporary artists—Brandi Carlile, Sharon Van Etten and Phoebe Bridgers, to name a few—and the trailblazing music, songwriting and culture Mitchell established decades ago. Her records are more important than ever, and we are thrilled listeners will get to experience them with unparalleled directness, intimacy and realism.”
