'TIS BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE

MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, is celebrating Giving Tuesday by doubling all donations with the help of partner Xounts. All proceeds will go toward treatment, therapy/counseling grants, preventive resources and support groups for music professionals. MusiCares offers additional resources available to anyone struggling with mental-health issues. Email MusiCares directly for more information and make a contribution here.

Here are a few other worthy causes you might consider supporting:

  • The Michael Bolton Charities' Beyond Trauma Youth Music Therapy Program aids kids in overcoming trauma by providing the resources to create their own music and, it's hoped, empower them in the process. Donations can be made via The Michael Bolton Charities website.
  • The Loveland Foundation—established by author Rachel Cargie—gives the gift of healing with free therapy for those in need, especially during the holiday season. Over the last four years, the nonprofit has reached 20k Black women/girls and donated more than 130k hours of therapy. Organizers are encouraging interested parties to donate just $5 and share the idea with five friends. Donate here.
  • The White Feather Foundation is continuing its mission of raising funds for its Save the Mirning Sea Country campaign. In addition to preserving the sacred culture and sea country of this Aboriginal group, proceeds will go toward ensuring the protection of one of the largest whale sanctuaries in the world. The goal is currently set at $100k and so far, the org has raised nearly $30k. Find more information here.

There's plenty more where these came from. Wherever you choose to donate, may your holiday season be filled with gifts that make a difference.
