Ingrid Michaelson is taking her bows as the world-premiere musical The Notebook—for which she penned both music and lyrics—opens tonight at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater and, due to popular demand, has already extended its run through 10/30 with 16 additional dates. It's a rare achievement for a purely indie artist.
Michaelson's longtime manager is Lynn Grossman of Secret Road Artist Management. The singer-songwriter is repped by attorney Peter Lewit, who has worked on all aspects of her career, including recordings and publishing and assisted her in retaining ownership of her rights. Peter's own notebook is filled with lengthy entries about how much we suck.
Playwright Bekah Brunstetter (writer and producer on NBC's This Is Us) based the musical on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks, which also inspired the hit 2004 film. Its producers are Kevin McCollum and Kurt Deutsch. Broadway directors Michael Greif (Dear Evan Hansen, Next to Normal, RENT) and Schele Williams (Aida, Motown the Musical) teamed up with choreographer Katie Spelman to bring the show to life. You'll find info on the additional dates here.
We've asked for tickets and been told that the notorious "bong incident" during a Cleveland production of 12 Angry Men means we're barred from legit theater in most of the continental U.S.
