The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) have announced that the 20th-annual Sing Out for Freedom benefit concert will take place 10/24 at The Town Hall in New York.
Hosted by actress Busy Philipps, the event will honor Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, musician Shaina Taub and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Patti Smith (pictured) for their activism.
Co-founded by NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman, her daughter Liana Stampur, who is a recording artist, and actor/singer Erich Bergen, the Sing Out for Freedom concert shines a light on social injustices and civil rights issues "through song, spoken word and other performing arts." Proceeds benefit the work of the ACLU and NYCLU to promote and protect civil rights and liberties across the U.S.
