Martin Hall, manager of Wet Leg, Manic Street Preachers and The Script, will be honored at the Artist and Manager Awards in November. Becky Hill is also on the winner’s list.
Hall will be given the lifetime-achievement Managers’ Manager Award for his long career, which has seen him handling Manic Street Preachers since 1990 as well as The Script, whom he co-manages with SJM’s Simon Moran.
This year, Hall enjoyed a breakthrough with Wet Leg, which hit #1 in the U.K. in April with its eponymous debut (Domino) The album was Hall’s third chart-topper in 12 months, alongside the Manics' Ultra Vivid Lament and The Script’s Tales From the Script, both of which were released via Sony.
Annabella Coldrick, chief executive of the Music Managers Forum, which mounts the awards, called Hall’s long-term success “extraordinary" and said, "These are very different artists, on vastly different career trajectories, and yet all have entrusted Martin to navigate the business on their behalf. That he has done this so consistently, and over such a lengthy period of time, is the mark of a truly great manager.”
Hill, meanwhile, will be named Artist of the Year, which follows the release of Only Honest on the Weekend (Polydor), her 2021 gold-certified debut album. It has shifted more than 120k copies. According to the Official Charts Company, Hill has been in the U.K. Top 75 singles chart for 299 weeks, racking up 16 Top 40 hits.
The Artist and Manager Awards will take place on 11/17 at London’s Bloomsbury Big Top.
