Ahead of Fearless: Taylor's Version, Taylor Swift has released another cut from her vault: "Mr. Perfectly Fine." The epic 27-track re-record, which arrives Friday via Republic, will be the third project from Swift within the last year.
The output from the three-time Album of the Year Grammy-winner since the summer of 2020 is unparalleled for a pop superstar. In recent years, we've seen other pop stars adopt the "hip-hop strategy" of releasing multiple projects within a window smaller than the typical album cycle. Ariana Grande dropped thank u, next within six months of Sweetener; BTS has released three projects within a year; but neither come close to the 61 songs from Swift when you combine evermore, folklore and Fearless: Taylor's Version.
The output from Swift over the last year can only be compared to artists like Future and YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
When Fearless: Taylor's Version secures #1 on the HITS Top 50 next week, Swift will become the fastest artist to log three different #1 albums (eight months) since Future's run in 2015-2016 (six months, 20 days).
Tay's last two albums have combined for 3.5m in activity to date (U.S.); folklore is at 2.5m and evermore will hit 1m at the end of this week.
Could Swift possibly have more material to be released this year? Will she go on hiatus before another album drops? The only thing we've accomplished since the pandemic started is adding extra inches to our waist line.
