OSCAR SONG NOMS FOLLOW GLOBES' LEAD

Having won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for “Io sì (Seen)," from the film The Life Ahead, legendary songwriter Diane Warren will have another shot at her first Oscar as the track has been nominated for the 2021 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Four of the songs that were up for the Golden Globe received Oscar noms, along with one newcomer, Eurovision Song Contest's “Húsavík,” written by Atli Orvarsson, Fat Max Gsus, Rickard Goransson and Savan Kotecha.

The morning after winning the Song of the Year Grammy, H.E.R. received an Oscar nomination for “Fight for You,” from Judas and the Black Messiah. Her Grammy-winning collaborator, Tiara Thomas, co-wrote the song, on which D’Mile was also a co-writer.

Likewise up for the Best Original Song Award are Sam Ashworth and Leslie Odom Jr.’s “Speak Now,” the lone new song in the 1964 period piece One Night in Miami, and Celeste and Daniel Pemberton’s “Hear My Voice,” from The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Warren received her 12th Oscar nom for “Io sì (Seen),” which she co-wrote with singer Laura Pausini for The Life Ahead.

In the score category, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are double-nominated—for Mank and, with Jon Battiste, Soul. The pair will compete with Terence Blanchard (Da 5 Bloods), Emile Mosseri (Minari) and James Newton Howard (News of the World).

Andra Day, who won an acting Globe for her turn as Billie Holiday in her big-screen debut, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, is a contender for the Best Actress Oscar.

Netflix’s Mank leads the Oscar nominations with 10, while six films—among them Judas and the Black Messiah, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7—received six each. For the full list of nominations, click here.
